As I mentioned in my post about my Little Man’s Very Own Alphabet, I love any opportunity to lose myself in a project, especially after a busy time, it’s like a palette cleanser and more often than not, just a need to redirect my energies. So after our first Christmas season and an unexpectedly busy January for GW Prints, I needed a project!
We picked up a Latt table from Ikea as I wanted somewhere for Little Man to draw and play with things like playdough without being strapped into his booster chair at the main table. My first thought was “we have to paint it”, its such a good buy for £20,but the white and pine Ikeaness leaves a lot to be desired.
Like always, Pinterest was my first stop and I soon became aware that I wasn’t going to stop at a coat of paint. Look how fantastic these hacks are that inspired me to get started.
Feeling inspired I got to work!
I sanded and primed the table and chairs, and then painted in two coats of Pewter Grey.
Primed the MDF side of the table top, and painted with two coats of Chalkboard paint.
And applied the cute wrapping paper I found at Paperchase to the seat tops and inner chair tops using Mod Podge, and coated with 4 more layers so it is sealed and wipeable.
So after 2 evenings and a nap time, Little Man has a revamped table which he loves!
This was just stage one, stage two will be adding a perspex top to the table so that he can still use it for playdough, snack times and other messy activities, and I’m also planning on making some interchangeable tops for it, as a way of space saving, one with a Duplo and Megabloks boards attached, and some play mats to go underneath the perspex so he can play with his cars and Happyland toys.
Stay tuned to the blog as I intend to share these play mats with you all in the form of some free GW Prints printables!
